The Vicious Cycle of a Rat Race – And Ways to Escape

The proverbial Rat Race is a never-ending dead-end job, always promising for a better salary or position, as you slave through the hours hoping for a brighter future that never seems to happen just yet. It is as if the boss is always dangling a carrot in front of you, so close yet you will never be able to catch it simply because the boss never wants to in the first place.

Do you feel like a donkey chasing a dangling carrot?

Does this mean you will never reach the position and the salary you have been dreaming of? Not necessarily, it is certainly possible to achieve aspiration in the workplace. But it may take a long time, hours, days, months, and even years sacrificing your time and quality of life.

At What Cost?

All the years of toiling to achieve your goals will probably come at a great cost:

• You will hardly have any quality time with your family. You may miss your child’s birthday, family gatherings, major events, funeral, etc. It is normal that as you go up the position ladder, your salary increased by a smidgen, your responsibility quadrupled, and the next thing you know you do not have much time to spend with your family.
• To scale up the corporate ladder, it is inevitable that somebody has to be pushed out of your way. You may have to lose good friends who happen to vie for the same top position that you are tussling for. Your sense of moral goes out of the window as you resort to snake and weasel your way to the top. Only to find that you are alone after trampling many people along the way to the top.
• Disillusionment and regret for not spending more time with your family and loved one after all the years.

Make plans to escape the rat race early

So what can be done to escape this vicious and unforgiving rat race? You might say that you don’t know what else to do or you cannot afford to quit your job as you need to pay the bills. Yes, your situation is understandable. You might be making just enough to pay the bills and you are immune and used to the long hours of working for now. But maybe deep in your heart, you might be asking how long more you can endure your dreaded job.

Plan Your Escape Route

The best thing that you can do is plan your escape route. Start to find other alternatives, do your research, make your preparation and take ACTION on your plan.

Find outside incomes or make money outside of working hours

There are many ways that you can do to slowly get out of the rat race. One of the common things to do is finding another source of income, or make money outside of your working hours. Examples are:

• Selling INSURANCE (Life, medical, etc.) you’d be surprised that a lot of people still doesn’t own insurance or the appropriate one to cover for themselves
• Promote and sell Network Marketing products. Choose the best and most trusted company e.g. AMWAY, Shaklee, etc.
• Become a part-time REAL ESTATE agent
• Open up a STALL at the flea market on the weekend
• Open a KIOSK selling merchandise or snacks in a mall. You may hire a staff to operate for you
• And so many more. Just do your research

Some of you might say that you don’t have time for all these. Maybe because you usually come late at home, or your family needs you at home after work, or whatever it may be. If that is the case, work from home job or business is the best path for you.

Work from home job

This is the most straightforward work-home job you can do. You can use your passion or specific skills to make some money. For example, if you are good at making handicrafts, you can sell them at the local market and also promote and sell it online on eBay, Amazon, Etsy, etc. Are you good at translating or writing? Maybe you can trade your skill for money at freelance sites, such as elance.com or fiverr.com.

Work from Home Business and Make Money Online – Leveraging the Power of the Internet!

In the long term, this is probably the best way to escape the rat race in the long term. Millions of people are literally on the net every day looking for service to solve their problems and products that makes their life easier and more convenient. If you have a specific skill or service that you have to offer, the internet is a great way to promote your service to people and if you have a product, instead of selling locally, your market is basically the whole world.

But what if you do not have a specific skill for service or any products at all?

Not a problem, there are a lot of companies that could use some help to promote and sell their products.

This can be done through having a blog that gives reviews on products or just simply having an online shop on a specific market niche.
